Low Cost Microchipping
Our $10 microchipping program makes permanent pet identification affordable for families across Southern Illinois. Microchips help reunite lost pets with their owners quickly and play an important role in reducing the number of animals entering shelters.
Microchip Program Details:
• We use Fi Nano microchips that are ISO certified and ICAR registered, making them compatible with all international scanners.
• Each microchip operates on a 134.2 kHz frequency and is searchable through the AAHA 24/7 pet recovery database.
• Microchips come preloaded in a sterile syringe with a small-gauge needle and are individually wrapped to maintain sterility.
• After implantation, pet owners must register their microchip online and keep all contact information accurate and up to date.
• Microchips are not GPS or tracking devices. They only work when a pet is scanned and the registration information is current.
• The microchip is implanted just under the skin, typically between the shoulder blades.
• Most pets tolerate microchipping very well. Possible side effects may include:
◦ Mild discomfort or soreness
◦ Minor bleeding
◦ Temporary swelling or redness
◦ Temporary hair loss at the site
◦ Infection
◦ Very rare complications such as microchip failure or tumor formation
• If you have any medical concerns about your pet, we recommend consulting your veterinarian before proceeding.
• The Infinity Project NFP provides this service as a community public service and is not a veterinary provider.
• Any concerns related to the microchip itself should be directed to the manufacturer.
• In the event of ownership changes, the microchip registration must be updated by the owner.
• While microchips greatly improve the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families, pet recovery cannot be guaranteed.
